hot x buns, an easter tradition?

We have been living in Canada now for nearly 3 years and the only place we have found fresh hot cross buns was in an Australian bakery in Oakville, Ontario.

Do Canadians not celebrate Easter with oven warmed buns smothered in soft butter? It seems not. A few Canadian friends think that I might be crazy wanting to have these yummy treats at this time of the year, but when else do you have them?

I know that British people have them at Easter, because my cousin was teasing me with how many he had to eat!!

So, I decided to make my own. They came out not too bad, a little heavy maybe, but pretty good all the same. Nothing beats the smell of hot x buns baking in the oven. And how fabulous it was painting the tops with a sugar glaze...mmmm!!
