For Christmas this year, my husband and kids bought me a KitchenAid mixer. I have been wanting one of these for a long time and this year, I got lucky!
I love my mixer. I think I use it nearly every day. It makes a great pizza dough and it mixes a nice cake.
I thought that I might get fed up with having to look after it... cleaning everything all the time, but I don't because I love my mixer! I don't know how I managed without it!!
Next on my wish list is a pasta maker attachment for it. I had a manual pasta maker in New Zealand and it was great fun to use...but now I'd love to have the attachment for my mixer. Imagine the pasta geting rolled outta there!!

Supermarket choices...
Living up here in the far North of Canada, I begin to realise what it must take to get fresh produce here in good condition, especially this time of the year.
I find that our 2 supermarkets stock only a small amount of produce. They do this in case it doesn't sell and they are stuck with it, I guess!
I miss the variety that I have grown accustommed to, not just when we were living in Ontario, but also back home in NZ. I would give anything to get to a WholeFoods right now! Organic Garage...hold me back!!!
Although I didn't buy much in the ways of organics ( I did when I could ), but at least I had the choice. There is a very small amount of organics up here, but not a huge selection.
This summer, I would love to give fruit and vege gardening a go...but then, will all the ravens steal everything!!

I am really looking forward to the upcoming bbq season. My sister-in-law sent me a Cusine magazine for my birthday and there are some gorgeous looking recipes for the summer. I can't wait to try some of them out...beer marinated steak to jamaican jerk chicken skewers!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Warm weather, cold mojitos and good friends...what more could you ask for!!
If you have never tried using a plank for cooking on a bbq, you should try it this summer. The technique is simple. Soak the plank in water for at least 4 hours. Dry it off and sprinkle with coarse salt. Once the bbq is ready, place the meat... I like to use salmon onto the plank...squeeze on some lime juice and pat on some brown sugar...put it onto the barby!! Should take about 20-30 minutes give or take. Give it a minute to settle and enjoy!!

Welcome to Jennifer's Catering!
This is my very first attempt at a blog! I am a chef livng in the NWT in Canada with my husband and 2 boys.
I am starting up a catering business in Hay River, which I am really excited about. I have been cooking professionally for about 15 years. I love to feed people and I love to see my friends and family enjoy what I cook for them.
I aim to post recipes on here for whoever wants them and if anyone needs advice on something, then I'm here for that too!
