I am really looking forward to the upcoming bbq season. My sister-in-law sent me a Cusine magazine for my birthday and there are some gorgeous looking recipes for the summer. I can't wait to try some of them out...beer marinated steak to jamaican jerk chicken skewers!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Warm weather, cold mojitos and good friends...what more could you ask for!!
If you have never tried using a plank for cooking on a bbq, you should try it this summer. The technique is simple. Soak the plank in water for at least 4 hours. Dry it off and sprinkle with coarse salt. Once the bbq is ready, place the meat... I like to use salmon onto the plank...squeeze on some lime juice and pat on some brown sugar...put it onto the barby!! Should take about 20-30 minutes give or take. Give it a minute to settle and enjoy!!

Well thanks for that recipe - so simple, brown sugar?
ReplyDeleteDo you start off with warm water to soak (i guess it eventually cools...)
this is exciting...doesn't matter either way. i use cold water...it's just so that when you put the plank over the fire, it doesn't burn to a crisp and ruin your dinner!
ReplyDeletei do a bbq'd brie on a plank and forgot to soak it once...quickly dipped it in water for 15 min...it did the trick but the bottom of plank still rather burnt-ish...
ReplyDeletei think you told me about that brie. did you put anything on the cheese? or was it plain. i know of a nice recipe with apricot jam and slivered almonds that go on the top of the cheese and it goes in the oven, or even a plank... and gets hot and sticky and the cheese gets melty... very popular and yummy!
